More and more restaurants from China are opening its branch in oversea. With more than 400 restaurants throughout China, Dagu opened its franchises in Canada last year. Currently, there are 9 locations throughout Canada, from Toronto to Calgary.
I decided to go to the franchise in Thornhill and it was loud. There were Chinese music playing in the background and also people talking in Cantonese and Mandarin. The concept of the interior were wood. There were wooden tables, floor and even the counter was wood, the only thing that was not wood however, were the chairs as it was metal.
As it said in the name, Dagu specializes in rice noodles. What is rice noodle? There are different types of rice noodles, they can be thin, thick, round or flat. However, all rice noodles have one thing in common, they are made with rice flour and water.
Dagu uses round rice noodles for all their dishes. The signature dish there is their ‘Signature Rice Noodle Soup with Braised Bone in Pork’. Orders were made via the waitresses and since there were a lot of waitress there, they came very quick.
Besides rice noodles, they also offer side dishes and drinks. Along with extra ingredients to add in the rice noodle.
We ordered the ‘Spicy Flavoured Crossing the Bridge Rice Noodle Soup’. When the food arrived, the ingredients for the signature dish were already all inside expect for the noodles. But for the spicy rice noodle, the ingredients came separately. Due to the bowls they serve the noodles in, the broth was still boiling when it arrived. The soups are said to be made for hours hence the rich white colour from the pork broth. Considering there are so much ingredients beside the rice noodles, there are lots of different textures when eating. Another good thing about this place is that their noodles can be refilled for free!
Overall, the visit to Dagu was pleasant. The waitresses were friendly and the food was flavourful.
