A little bit of history….

Sushi Den is an authentic restaurant that first opened on Christmas in 1984. It was born when a chef in Tokyo, named Toshi, decided to move to Los Angeles and Denver to open his very own sushi restaurant. It started off as a very small business but Toshi was the heart and soul of Sushi Den, he transformed his tiny restaurant into something amazing which not only pleases your eyes, but also your pallet. It is now found all over Canada and America. Sushi Den is a stunning restaurant that stands out from others due to the fact that they fly in fresh fish from the city of Fukuoka where one of Japan’s largest fish markets lays.

My experience… April 6, 2019

It was a lazy Saturday afternoon and I found myself alone at home with no food to eat. I decided to call my friends so we could go out and eat and after talking on the phone for an hour, we finally reached a decision, Sushi Den. We arrived around 4:00 pm, as soon as I entered the restaurant a strange sense of peace washed over me. I was greeted to a stunning wooden floor and dimmed lights, we were then lead to a booth and the sound of music filled my ears. Then all of the sudden I was overwhelmed as the aroma of sushi and tempura filled my senses.

As I sat in the booth I noticed a brown mahogany table with a set of plates in front of me. My friends and I asked for the all you can eat and  we were given a menu where you check off the boxes for the different types of sushi you would like and the amount. There was so much to choose from I didn’t know where to start! The menu consisted of a variety of food ranging from sushi, salad, noodles, tempura, dumplings, shrimp, and more. It cost only $30!

My experience there was delightful. I was able to test my pallet and eat a variety of different types of sushi in order to leave my comfort zone and try new things. The first thing we ordered was a 6 piece roll of spicy crab alongside some sashimi. I can easily say the spicy crab sushi was one of the best pieces of sushi i’ve ever had. It consisted of rice which was delicately surrounded by a layer of crunchy seaweed which almost melted in my mouth. Once you start to eat it you are instantly hit with mixture of crab and mayonnaise which is elegantly placed on the top. The relatively bland rice is a perfect foil for the salty soy sauce that’s placed on the side. Next we ordered some soup dumplings and once I ate it an explosion of pork filled my pallet. All the food there was so warm and comforting, I never wanted to leave.

Sushi ship

The presentation of the food was absolutely stunning. When we ordered a lot of sushi rolls, they presented it to us by placing the different types of sushi onto a beautiful hand carved wooden ship! They proceeded to bring more food which was decorated marvellously with swirls of different sauces and vegetables. The atmosphere is so welcoming and the staff is super kind, every dish is made with time and effort and you will experience food like you never have before.

Some more food … popcorn chicken and vegetable tempura

I really loved that this restaurant had a variety of so many different types of food. Each dish has so much thought put into it and it made me fall in love with Japanese cuisine all over again! Its an amazing restaurant for everyone! don’t like sushi? or are you vegetarian? don’t worry because this restaurant has so many options to choose from.

I had an amazing time at Sushi Den and was able to experience Japanese cuisine in a whole new light. I was impressed by the knife work and the thin slices of fish tastes super fresh, the albacore meaty, and the salmon delicious. I would definitely recommend going to this restaurant with your friends and family, trust me you won’t regret it!
