Have you ever seen a restaurant that cuts roasted duck right in front of you? (Grandeur Palace)

On Sunday, April 7th, 2019, I went to a restaurant named “Grandeur Palace” with my dad, mom and sister. The place does not have a sign and it is pretty hard to spot it.

We got there at around 6:00 pm, most of the customers, waiters and waitress were all Chinese over 50 years old. (Mainly cantonese)

The first thing I saw when I walked in was the aquarium filled with a bunch of lobsters in there.

The predominant material in the is concrete since the walls and pillars are all made out of concrete. There were also tables and chairs which were made out of woods.

The restaurant has some  fancy decorations.

We were guided to a round table with fabric cover on, then the waiter gave us the menus. There were various types of menus with many dishes on promotion.

All of the dishe names were written in English and Mandarin Chinese.

After settling down at the table, we ordered our food through a waiter.

It took them around 10-15 minutes to serve the first dish which is pretty fast. The price is relatively high for a Chinese restaurant, we ended up with a bill of $82. Also, the food that they serve are mostly oily and salty.

The food is presented in round plain white plates usually with vegetables separated from the meat. The pace of consumption was medium, it took us around 40 minutes to finish our meal.

The food we ordered is hot, solid, and the colours are mostly brown and green. The main smell that I detected is roasted duck.

Throughout my dinner time, I heard a lot of people talking and laughing. There were lots of noises made by the workers when they were gathering the dishes at the table. I could also hear the waiters and waitresses yelling at each other. There were always people walking around constantly whether they were the workers or the customers.

The dishes that we ordered are:

  1. Stir Fried Diced Beef Tenderloin & Mushrooms with Garlic
  1. Braised Crispy Tofu Cubes with Scallions & Shrimp-Roes
  1. Roasted Peking Duck (Two Courses)

After the roasted duck is served, the waitress cut the duck right in front of us which is a really cool and refreshing experience!

This is what the roasted duck looks like after she cut it.

The roasted duck is served with carrots, cucumbers and Chinese pancakes.

Overall, I had a pretty great time at Grandeur Palace. The dishes were delicious, but the price isn’t that affordable in my opinion.

The traditions really make the food more unique.
